📜 History of Tuvalu Family Health Association (TuFHA)

Since its inception, TuFHA has remained at the forefront of delivering quality sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services to all communities in Tuvalu, upholding dignity, equity, and care.

1995

TuFHA was founded as a grassroots response to the growing need for accessible family planning services in Tuvalu.

2003

Joined the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and began receiving international support and guidance on SRHR practices.

2010

Expanded services to include youth peer education, HIV prevention, and gender-based violence (GBV) awareness.

2015

Opened a youth-friendly service center and began structured sexuality education programs in schools.

2017

Launched outreach programs to remote islands and began regular clinic visits with mobile health teams.

2020

Adapted service delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic, implementing remote health education and community-based distribution of SRH supplies.

2023

Initiated digital transformation of data monitoring and evaluation systems through the TuFHA Health Portal.

2024+

Continues to advocate for SRHR rights, capacity building, youth empowerment, and climate-resilient healthcare systems in Tuvalu, while fostering strong partnerships with national and regional organizations.
